In 1991, Malaysia’s then Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir offered a bold aspiration to the country:

Artificial Intelligence: AI release Hopefully, the Malaysian who is born today and in the years to come will be the last generation of our citizens who will be living in a country that is called ‘developing’. The ultimate objective that we should aim for is a Malaysia that is a fully developed country by the year 2020.

That ‘Vision 2020′, as it came to be called, aspires for Malaysia to be a united nation and is intended to be a major step toward establishing a scientific and progressive society, a society that is innovative and forward-looking, one that is not only a consumer of technology but also a contributor to the scientific and technological civilization of the future.

Some say that it is pure dream. But then, we had a dream and dreams make life worth living.

That dream inspired many other dreams including mine.

The question is… do we still have the dream? Or have the fire fizzled and we continue on with our mundane life – treading on reality.

Year 2020 is not such a distant period anymore. The new millenium came and passed by a good 7 years ago.

When our next generation time come – are we still living in a developing country that is still chasing its ‘developed society’ dream. Or will they be living in a developed country? Actually, both are not too bad because worse of all if at that time they live in a country that couldn’t care less. ‘Tak apa lah’.

Me..I still keep my dream and living a dream. What’s your dream?
