Ghost In The Shell Anyone?

We have all seen Terminator series, Matrix, I Robot and Ghost In The Shell . In all these films, the premise is that humankind created machines with AI so advanced that they develop ‘life’ of their own and eventually try to dominate humankind, their creator.

Having seen all these, I thought that surely no one in their right mind will try to actually realise this prophecy, no? Obviously I am wrong.

What’s your dream?

They say a life without a dream is not worth living.

In 1991, Malaysia’s then Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir offered a bold aspiration to the country:

Hopefully, the Malaysian who is born today and in the years to come will be the last generation of our citizens who will be living in a country that is called ‘developing’. The ultimate objective that we should aim for is a Malaysia that is a fully developed country by the year 2020.

That ‘Vision 2020′, as it came to be called, aspires for Malaysia to be a united nation and is intended to be a major step toward establishing a scientific and progressive society, a society that is innovative and forward-looking, one that is not only a consumer of technology but also a contributor to the scientific and technological civilization of the future.

Some say that it is pure dream. But then, we had a dream and dreams make life worth living.

Chip Conspiracy

When I was asked to write to this blog yesterday, the first thing I did was to check out the new CHIP magazine. Off I went to MidValley, braving the lunch crowd that I detest. I was just going to grab the copy of CHIP and get away. Going off the walkalator from the basement parking, I went straight to the newsagent-cum-moneychanger that was first to be seen. Searched high and low but couldn’t find the mag.

Asked the Indian guy manning the till. He just shook his head and muttered ‘Takde‘.
