Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi 7 in Malaysia, bringing more options for competitive smartphones in that sub-RM1,000 range. According to Xiaomi, the brand had decided to switch up the design of the Redmi series with the Redmi Note 7. Instead of a more modest look and feel, the Redmi Note 7 has a premium design, with the front and back covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It has a 6.3-inch Dot Drop display with a 19.5:9 screen ratio, capable of outputting a resolution of 2380 x 1080 and has a colour gamut of 84% NTSC.

The highlight feature for the Redmi Note 7 is its special camera at the back that can deliver pseudo 48-megapixels. This is made possible with the Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 backside illuminated CMOS sensor, which works by using Samsung’s Tetracell technology to merge four pixels together to form one large 1.6µm pixel. As a result of this technology, you get 12-megapixel shots that have more detail and are brighter, even if taken in low-light. Besides that, the Redmi Note 7 will come with AI features like AI Beautify and the night mode that was first introduced in the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 7 comes packed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset, with its CPU able to run at a maximum of 2.2 GHz. That much power is enough for you to even play mobile games for hours, with the 4,000 mAh battery ensuring that you’ll get enough mileage for your gaming sessions. When the battery needs a top-up, it can be charged up fast thanks to Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4 technology. Other features, include an IR blaster so you can use the phone as a remote control for home appliances like TVs.

Xiaomi built the Redmi Note 7 to be tough, as evident by the use of Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back. Not only is it less susceptible to fall damage (within reason), the chassis also comes with reinforced corners and watertight seals for the buttons and ports.

The Redmi Note 7 will be sold in three variants:
3GB RAM with 32GB ROM for RM679 (A Lazada exclusive)
4GB RAM with 64GB ROM for RM 799
4GB RAM with 128GB ROM for RM 949

They will be officially available for purchase on 27th March 2019 and will come in three different colours: Space Black, Neptune Blue, and Nebula Red. In addition, the Redmi Note 7 will also come with an exclusive 18-month warranty.

Next is the more modest Redmi 7, which is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 632 chipset. It also features a 6.26-inch Dot Drop display, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and 4,000 mAh battery. It shares some of the Redmi Note 7’s features, such as the IR blaster and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for the front only.

The Redmi 7 comes in two variants, a 2GB RAM with 16GM ROM variant for RM499 and a 3GB RAM with 32GB ROM variant for RM599. This highly affordable smartphone will also go on sale beginning 27th March 2019, with Comet Blue, Eclipse Black and Lunar Red colours available for you to choose.
