End Of The Line
When it comes to the best, you think of words like flagship, or top of the line. And when it comes to motherboards in particular, what exactly consists as flagship or top of the line while the same chipsets are used across different boards? It depends on whether they’re meant for the budget crowd or the high-end crowd. Perhaps they are made with better materials, or have better quality control, but the most apparent difference between lower and higher-end motherboards are the extra features.
If we’re talking about features, then the MSI MEG X399 CREATION has to be one of the most feature packed motherboards we have reviewed. If it isn’t already obvious, the MEG X399 CREATION uses the X399 chipset meant for AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper processors. On the board is a total of eight DIMM slots with support of Quad Channel memory and memory frequencies of 2,133MHz up to 3600+MHz, depending on your overclock.
It also has four PCI-e x16 slots that are reinforced with MSI’s Steel Armor, which can be considered quite generous. You can remove the heatsinks on the right to easily reveal M.2 slots to install your M.2 SSDs too. If the on-board M.2 slots aren’t enough, the motherboard also comes with an M.2 XPANDER-AERO. Don’t be fooled by its GPU-like appearance, because it’s not one but instead slots into a PCI-e x16 slot to expand the available M.2 slots by an additional four. It also has a large heatsink and a single fan over it to keep your M.2 components cool.
At the lower right you get the usual power and reset switch, which is useful during setup or while troubleshooting your PC. Next to them is the GAME BOOST button that can be enabled in the BIOS to help you automatically overclock your processor according to the level you choose on the knob. Finally, for every enthusiast class motherboard, it’s hard to leave out the EZ Debug LED. This is a useful feature that has saved our lives more than once and is always a plus to be found on any motherboard.
CHIP CONCLUDE: You won’t go wrong with the MSI MEG X399 CREATION – it’s looks good, is built durably, and is also packed to the brim with great features and additional components.
