Shielding The Enemies Away
The BenQ ZOWIE XL2740 is one of the latest monitors from the brand, and this month we managed to get our hands on this monster of a monitor that is built for the professionals. Of course, if you are a serious gamer, it is also worth trying this beast.
What makes it a beast you may ask? Well, the monitor is built with 240Hz of refresh rate. While 144Hz would be ridiculous for some, wait till you try 240Hz. The jump from 144Hz to 240Hz may not be too noticeable (for us) but if you want the best, why not go for it? If you are using a regular 60Hz monitor, then the jump will definitely be larger for you and you will notice how the movements of the mouse are smoother with fewer stutters. This rings true in games as well. If you pair the monitor with a capable graphics card, your games will be buttery smooth, taking your gaming prowess to the next level. It is also G-Sync and FreeSync compatible.
Aside from the enhanced refresh rate, the monitor also comes packaged with a pair of Shields that can be attached to the right and left side of the monitor. For LAN parties, it serves to block away screen cheaters. As for regular use, it could potentially block annoying reflections against your monitor, especially when you have open windows on the side.
When it comes to features, the “Black eQualizer” can increase visibility in darker areas without overexposing the brighter areas. Along with the “Color Vibrance” option, you can change the colour manually to be more vibrant. For example, in CS:GO, a higher vibrancy will offer you the capability of seeing your enemies against the background and the milliseconds of realisation could be the difference between life and death.
The monitor also comes with an adjustable stand. Normally, for stands that have a fixed height and only allow tilting, you would usually have to stack books or dictionary under the stand for more height. But this stand allows you to adjust the monitor’s height, or tilt it to obtain your preferred viewing angle. Speaking of adjustable, the monitor also comes with an S-Switch that allows the user to change a few settings on the monitor on the fly. For example, if you wish to switch input, simply tap on the INPUT button on the device. You can also toggle between saved modes, all by tapping on the buttons. Once you have it all set up, you can toggle between them easily, saving you plenty of time later. Basically, the S-Switch allows for easier access to commonly used settings.
CHIP CONCLUDE: The BenQ ZOWIE XL2740 is a great monitor with some great features but comes with a high price. 240Hz is an overkill but if you want the best gaming monitor, this could just be the one for you.
