The Prodigal Son Returns

Earlier this year, the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 was released and it brought great value and performance at reasonable prices. Not only that, the 5,000mAh battery that came with the small phone provided enough battery life to last 2 days and more. The only downside was the software issues, with the biggest problem being the way its camera somehow gaining new problems after new updates were released to fix other problems.

Now ASUS has returned with the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2, aimed to provide the perfect experience the M1 almost did. The M2 comes with an upgraded all-screen high-res display with FHD+ resolution. The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 for incredible durability. Whilst on the back is a brand-new Wave-finish with a 3D-curved glossy design that provides a nice curved back for comfortable grip.

On the inside is a Snapdragon 660 with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Also, you no longer have to worry about using up a SIM card slot, as there’s now a dedicated slot for your microSD card. When used on a daily basis, the M2 does everything smoothly and fluidly with no lag or stutter. It also retained the large 5,000mAh battery we all have come to love. In addition, the M2 is lighter than the M1 at only 175g.

Finally, ASUS has heeded the words of the people, and have used a Sony IMX486 sensor for its rear 12+5MP dual cameras. With the new sensor the camera’s performance is now exactly what we hoped for, doing great in low light conditions. The M1 would take about a second or two for a picture to be taken, but on the M2 you can rapid-fire shots as you please. If you’re more of a selfie person, then you can use the front 13MP camera. The front camera sports a Real-time Beautification feature that allows you to see the three levels of beautification as you are taking the shot.

CHIP CONCLUDE: The ZenFone Max Pro M2 provides everything the average Joe would ever need: solid performance, strong battery life and a good camera, all at an affordable price.
