Join The Legion

The Lenovo Legion Y530 is a decently sized laptop that aims to deliver power and performance for your everyday tasks. It comes with a unique design that not many laptops in the market opted for – a hinge that is slightly off-edge, along with a webcam that’s located at the bottom of the display. The laptop is sturdy to the touch, and oozes quality through its build.
Speaking of display, the display of the laptop is near bezel-less on three sides aside from the chin, that houses the aforementioned webcam and the Legion logo. With the webcam located at the bottom of the screen, you will have to position yourself well when you are video conferencing to avoid people only looking up your nose.

The chassis of the laptop is also unique, sporting a slim design with large vents on the side and the bottom of the laptop. The fan does rev up when you are gaming. But, with the inclusion of Dolby Audio, you can simply drown the noise away with immersive audio. As for the keyboard, it only glows in a single colour of white, so RGB enthusiasts might just have to look elsewhere. But the keyboard is equipped with a numpad as well, and typing on the it is fantastic and comfortable.

The display can also be laid down in a 180-degree fashion, but we’re not sure what purpose that would serve aside from just because it can do so. Other than that, the display is also equipped with 144Hz of refresh rate, perfect for buttery smooth gaming sessions. To further assist with gaming, the laptop is equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, so playing games like DotA 2, CS:GO and not very demanding games will be of no issue. The laptop is built like your average work laptop on the outside, with its sleek and professional look, but under the hood lays a powerful mid-range gaming machine.

With that said, we dove into the world of Overwatch and Witcher 3 on the laptop, and it performed fairly well. Obviously you are unable to play Witcher on a steady FPS when everything is turned up to Ultra, but the 1050 Ti held well in Normal settings. However, for newer games in the future, the 1050 Ti will definitely lose steam over time.
Overall, the Lenovo Legion Y530 is a quality laptop that is business in the front but packs some powerful specs inside. The design of this laptop is unique and professional, without feeling gaudy at all thanks to the exclusion of RGB.

CHIP CONCLUDE: Just like a proper businessman, the Legion Y530 does the job it is set out to do well and goes straight to the point, without unnecessary flair or extra pizzazz.
