Storm From All Sides

Everyone needs a good pair of speakers somewhere in their home, whether in your living room, bedroom, kitchen or even bathroom. Life is only great when music fills the air. When you get home, all you want to do is turn on your tunes, and relax without much hassle or fuss. But if that’s what you want, then you’ll need a speaker that can support streaming.

The A&S Hurricane S is a little different than what we usually see in a speaker, it has a cuboid shape with speakers facing 3 different ways. One front-facing speaker and two side-facing speakers give it an open sound, instead of the more direct in-your-face output format that usually comes from a single speaker. Putting this in the middle of your room provides a nice enveloping sound, but it requires some strategic placing without blocking any of the speakers.

It has a wide range of inputs, including a CD player slot. In a way, you can call the Hurricane a stereo system instead of a speaker since it also has an FM radio function. If you’re in another room and want to play music from the speakers you can do so using Wi-Fi Multiroom, and if you have a playlist on Spotify then you can use Spotify Connect. We would also like to add that the Bluetooth function is excellent, and has been the easiest and fastest audio device we have ever paired with our smartphones.

The Hurricane has enough volume to it that filling up a room with music is so easy we Malaysians would say it was “kacang putih”. When it comes to its sound profile, the mids are more pronounced so you’ll hear vocals and certain instruments more. It also has a decent amount of bass, just enough to get that kick you need for music or movies if you’re not too fussy. It’s quite heavy, however, so you won’t be bringing it around with you while travelling. It’s still light enough if you want to toss into the back of your car for a road trip or carry it to your friend’s place, but it’s definitely not for commuting.

CHIP CONCLUDE: A pretty good all-round speaker that would sound really great when placed in the right position.
