A New Challenger

In a world filled with manufacturers making TVs left and right, it’s quite surprising to see a new challenger jumping into the fray. A&S has been pushing new products quite aggressively in Malaysia recently. We have had the opportunity to review some of their products before but those were audio devices, so we do look forward to seeing what A&S can do when it comes to display devices.

The A&S 4K UHD TV comes in a simple package and we were quite surprised on how light it was despite its size. We proceeded to open up the box and it’s actually packed quite minimally, you get two foam inserts and a foam cover for the TV itself, while the accessories like the remote and stands are packed together. Our impression so far has been quite lukewarm, and we should mention that the stands are plastic.

But putting that aside, the TV was easy to setup thanks to how light it is. TVs at this size usually require a helper, but a strong person could easily carry this one about. Powering it on, there’s a splash screen introducing the brand and then we get into the home screen of the TV. The TV runs on Android, making it a Smart TV, and you can download and use your favourite apps like YouTube and Netflix by going through the provided app store.

The controller response is a bit sluggish in that it quite often misses button presses, even when we’re doing it slowly, and can be easily blocked by obstacles. Putting that aside, we loaded up some 4K content to test colours and such. We’re quite satisfied overall with the picture quality and it does display true 4K UHD, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark when it comes to displaying 1080p content. We’re a bit fussier about these things, but the average consumer might not notice the difference. Sound wise it can hold its own. You can hear voices pretty clearly but it does lack in bass, so if you’re into movies then you’ll have to invest into a sound system to get the best experience.

CHIP CONCLUDE: Overall the A&S 4K UHD Smart LED TV is pretty good, nothing extraordinary but it gets the job done at a reasonable price.
