Be A Pro
Finally, we managed to get our hands on the ASUS Zenbook that comes with the new ScreenPad, a touchpad that doubles up as a screen. Definitely an interesting idea or the next step towards laptop innovation, but is it as useful at it seems? Let’s take a look at the whole specs of the device plus the usefulness of ScreenPad.
Shown off a while ago, the ScreenPad was designed as a new way to control your laptop aside from the standard touchscreen and trackpad. To navigate to the menu, all you have to do is drag down from the top of the pad, et voila, you have access to a few modes such as Spotify, Calculator and so on that allows you to transform the pad to something else. Spotify mode allows you to control music played by the app, while calculator allows for on the fly calculations without needing to pull out the app or your phone. While the modes are active, you will not be able to use the touchpad normally. But with the inclusion of a touchscreen, you’ll still be able to control the computer. This could be helpful when you are gaming but do not want to tab out of your game to control the music. The ScreenPad can also double up as a miniature second screen. To use it, toggle Extension Display Mode, then drag your intended app down to the touchpad and you can utilise it just like that.
Speaking of gaming, the laptop does fairly well when it comes to games as it is packed with some decent specs. When we tested it, the wrist area did get slightly warm but not to an uncomfortable level. When playing games and running intensive tasks, the fan does get slightly loud.
With two USB Type-A and two USB Type-C ports, you can easily connect your gaming peripherals onto the laptop without needing a dongle – a gaming mouse and a gaming headset or even a mouse with a keyboard can be done so, while your external HDDs can be connected with the USB Type-C. You can still connect your Bluetooth devices as well. A HDMI port can also be found on the laptop to support and external monitor if you wish. The laptop also sports a gorgeous display with its 15.6-inch 4K UHD display that allows you to watch Netflix or play games in 4K, as well enjoy a much brighter bright and more colourful display.
The Zenbook Pro is a great laptop that allows for some cutting-edge multitasking thanks to the inclusion of the ScreenPad and boasts a great display capable of jaw-dropping images. Work, play and most other tasks can be done well on the laptop.
CHIP CONCLUDE: A great laptop equipped with some great specs, gorgeous display and unique ScreenPad, but it is on the pricier side of things.
