As Deadly As A Tomahawk
When it comes to components, MSI is a brand that is known by many, especially for their plentiful offerings of motherboards and GPUs that fits the need of different people with differing budgets, and there will always be a MSI component that will suit your need. This month, we managed to get our hands on one of the latest boards from MSI that utilises the B450 chipset, the MSI B450 Tomahawk. The B450 chipset is the latest chipset from AMD that supports StoreMi right out of the box.
Setting up the motherboard for our test bed is a relatively simple affair. We even had it powered up on the first try, a far cry from last year’s models. Once booted, you will notice that the board is quite low-key with its lighting options – only the top right corner of the motherboard is capable of lighting up. If you wish, you can change up how it glows with the help of MSI’s Mystic Light. It even allows you to sync up with other Mystic Light capable devices or components, so they can shine together in harmony.
Continuing on, the motherboard is cased in a sleek mixture of black and metal, almost like a modern tomahawk. If you want to, you can even use stickers to dress up the heatsink of the motherboard to give it your own extra touch of personality.
As mentioned, you can utilise AMD’s StoreMi technology on the board that allows you to transform your current SSD to improve your storage performance. By doing so, games will start up faster, and boot times will be reduced as well, allowing you to jump right into the game and get dominating right away. Speaking of booting, if you run into some troubles with your BIOS, you won’t even require a CPU, RAM or even GPU to reset your BIOS, thanks to MSI’s BIOS FLASHBACK+. All you will need is a connected power supply and a USB dongle with the BIOS. Simply push the FLASHBACK button and you will be able to roll back into your old BIOS.
The motherboard allows you to plug in as many as six fans on it. With the newly designed heatsink, most of your components will be sufficiently cool, allowing you to perform tasks on it with no worries. One of the PCI-E slots even comes with Steel Armor to prevent your GPU from bending. You can also combine two GPUs together via AMD Crossfire if you wish to boost your gaming capabilities. Even if your GPU went kaput but you still need to use your PC, the board does come with a HDMI port and DVI port to plug in your monitors.
CHIP CONCLUDE: Overall, a great motherboard with decent features that will even satisfy the gamer and the overclocker in you, without throwing in unnecessary additions.
