Flagship specs with an affordable price, the perfect combination

Today marks a momentous occasion for Xiaomi Malaysia as they finally opened up a retail store in Midvalley Megamall. And at the same time, they decided to launch the brand-new POCOPHONE F1 on local grounds, having only 200 units of the device available to those that lined up early. The first few customers had been lining up since 8 PM yesterday! So, why the excitement and hype for this device? It is a device fitted with powerful specs, while maintaining a low price point. This harkens back to the days when OnePlus was first introduced to the market. But let’s take a quick dive into the specs of the device.

The POCOPHONE F1 comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 along with 6GB of RAM and a choice of 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Just going off on that spec list, you would assume that this device is meant for mobile gaming. One of the latest processors in the market along with 6GB of RAM? That’s a pretty big deal! As for the display, you have a 6.18-inch display, and for a phone in 2018, of course it comes with a notch as well. To keep you gaming for hours to come, it also has a large 4,000 mAh battery, and can be charged with a USB Type-C cable, and this means that quick charging is available for the device.

For the camera, you have a dual rear camera setup of 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel and a 20-megapixel front shooter for all your selfie needs. Although not top of the line among all the other flagship devices, we do believe that the camera will stand very well on its own. We will have to reserve our judgement for the upcoming review. Although having a USB Type-C, Xiaomi did not compromise on the necessities – it still comes with a headphone jack so you can enjoy wired audio if you prefer. Picking back up on storage, if 128GB is insufficient for you, you can top it up with a microSD card of up to 256GB, but it will take up the 2nd SIM slot so you have to decide between storage or a second SIM card.
