OPPO Malaysia has just launched the latest device to its series of selfie-centric smartphones, called the OPPO F9. Arriving with vibrant colours and a major improvement to the VOOC Flash Charge technology, you can expect a device stylish looking device that should have no issues with long hours on the go.
Usually found in the brand’s R-series of smartphones and rarely in the F-series, the OPPO F9 will come with the company’s in-house VOOC Flash Charge technology. According to OPPO Malaysia, the current iteration of the technology is able to deliver four times the charging speed of a 5V1A charging adapter. The example given was that it could gain 2 hours of talk time with just 5 minutes of charge. In order to safely achieve this sort of charging speed, VOOC uses an intelligent five-layer protection system that spans all the way from the charging adapter to the innards of the phone itself. By replacing the voltage reduction circuit with what OPPO calls the MCU, VOOC can prevent the device from overheating while it’s being charge. In theory, users should be able to fast charge and use it without feeling it heating up.
On the design side, OPPO continues to aim at capturing the younger crowd. To this end, the F9 comes in three variants of Sunrise Red, Twilight Blue and Starry Purple, all with a body that has gradation in colour for a more eye-pleasing effect. As for the display, it’s a huge 6.3-inch screen (2,340 x 1,080 resolution) with a rounded notch for the front camera.
Speaking of cameras, the rear camera is a 16+2MP dual camera setup. The 2MP lens is essentially there for depth of field, allowing for shots with great Bokeh effect. Using the built-in AI Scene Recognition feature, the device is also able to change scene settings accordingly. But more important is the front camera, which has always been OPPO’s key selling point. The F9’s front camera is a 25MP shooter that comes with a revamped Sensor-HDR tech, which is said to improve backlight for selfies and allow users to check the effects/results of the HDR setting in real time. Thanks to the AI Beauty Technology, the device is also able to analyse and better apply beautification enhancements to selfies, aiming to deliver more natural-looking pictures.
In terms of hardware, you will get a lot of storage at 64GB in total – to go with 6GB of RAM and Mediatek’s Helio P60 for smooth operation. It comes with a dedicated microSD slot as well, which means you’re unlikely to run out of space.
The OPPO F9 is now available for pre-orders and will go on sale officially on the 30th August 2018, for an attractive price point of RM1,399.
