Consistently Carbon

AMD has recently dropped the prices of their Ryzen processors, and now with GST hitting the 0% mark, prices have continued to drop in favour of consumers. There hasn’t been a time like this where it’s just so worth it to build an AMD system, and it comes at a great time where manufacturers are churning out motherboards with the new chipsets.

In our test bench this issue, MSI sent us its X470 GAMING PRO CARBON AC that is designed for a gamer or enthusiast. For the enthusiast, MSI brings to the table a host of features that makes cooling, modding, and performance optimisation easier. With six fan headers placed throughout the motherboard, you’ll have incredible control over multiple fans in DC or PWM mode. The motherboard is also designed to support the most popular AIO coolers on the market, so it includes a dedicated water pump PIN header that can be controlled from the BIOS and OS.

Enthusiasts always try to get the best out of their machine, and storage is no exception. The motherboard sports eight SATA 6Gb/s ports along with two M.2 ports, one of them protected by MSI’s M.2 Shield. M.2 Shield keeps your M.2 SSD protected and provides additional cooling to prevent throttling from heat. MSI also extended protection to the PCI-e slots with MSI Steel Armor, which can be found on two PCI-e slots to accommodate CrossFire and SLI setups that use large and heavy cards.

Audio is usually something you don’t think of when it comes to motherboards. With all that interference on-board, the only sound you can get from your integrated sound card would be subpar after all. But that wasn’t the case here with Audio Boost 4. The audio chip is physically isolated form the rest of the motherboard, acting as though it’s a dedicated sound card. Audiophiles will also be impressed that Audio Boost supports DSD (Direct Stream Digital) and has a built-in dedicated headphone amplifier that even supports high impedance headphones of up to 600ohms.

CHIP CONCLUDE: The MSI X470 GAMING PRO CARBON AC brings back the rugged and sleek carbon fibre look, while still keeping all the features and goodies that users love
