Recently, we were invited to attend a sneak peek workshop for the freshly announced honor smartphone that is designed and moulded to fit the 2018 market seamlessly, the honor 10. The phone is also the latest in their n-series.
As mentioned, it is a phone ripe with 2018 aesthetics. The first thing you will notice on the device is with its tiny notch on top of the phone. As you might’ve realised, most phones this year will be sporting a notch, albeit not as large as the one the iPhone X. However, once you turn the phone around, you will notice the unique colour of the device.
The honor 10 attempts to redefine the colour trend of 2018 with aurora-like colours. During the workshop, honor specified that the naming convention of their colour variants will be “Phantom”. Phantom is indescribable, just like the colour of the phone, displaying a different colour each time. The phone will feature the industry’s first colour reflection coating tech that will show roughly 36 different colour reflection. During production, one out of the five glass back that are produced will be discarded to ensure that the brand will only be delivering impeccable quality phones.
The phone also features an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor at the front of the device. By doing so, it allows the phone to have a truly unibody design without any breaks on the front of the device. It also allows you to use the sensor with wet or greasy fingers, saving you the hassle and annoyance of previous fingerprint readers. However, the device is not IP rated. It can be used under rain and splashes without much issues, but it might not survive a dive underwater.
As for the specs, the device is equipped with a HUAWEI Kirin 970 processor with 4GB of RAM and a choice of 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Sadly, the storage is fixed with no microSD capabilities. A representative from honor has mentioned that expandable storage is omitted to accommodate the new notch and that adding microSD capabilities will make the phone thicker. A 3,400 mAh battery keeps the device powered throughout the day.
The display of the device is fitted with a 5.84-inch FullHD+ Bezelless FullView display, with an 86.04% screen to body ratio. Camera wise, it sports a dual rear camera setup of 24-megapixel + 16-megapixel along with a 24-megapixel front camera. Of course, the phone is also armed with AI capabilities that will automatically detect what scene you are shooting: From cars to cats, and from food to text. There are roughly 500 scenarios that the AI will automatically detect and adjust the camera settings to better fit the scene. You can also take portraits with 3D Portrait Lighting for both the rear and front camera, allowing you to manually tweak the lighting of the picture.
The juicy details for pricing and availability will be made known on the 22nd of May during the official local launch of the honor 10. We can’t wait to get our hands on the Phantom Blue colour variant. Aside from Phantom Blue, it will also come in Phantom Green, Midnight Black and Glacier Grey.
