Today, Fujifilm Malaysia launched a brand-new instant camera within their instax series with the instax SQUARE SQ6. The SQ6 is the first analog instax camera from the brand that brilliantly utilises the increasing demand for square format films in the market, particularly among the youth.
To make things more special, a simultaneous launch is also being held in Japan along with the local launch. The SQ6 has some tricks up its sleeve. One of them being the ability to automatically control exposure, releasing you of the effort to manipulate light to shoot a good picture, so simply snap away and you are good! The auto exposure control with allow the flash to automatically calculate the brightness surrounding your subject and simultaneously adjust the shutter speed to perfectly capture your subject and the background with impeccable clarity. On the camera itself, it is equipped with a tiny selfie mirror to assist you in taking the perfect selfie or wefie.
If you wish, you can even pop a colour filter over the flash, and take pictures in orange, purple and even green. Despite being a weird addition, this filter will definitely assist in creating art pieces without the need to use a highlighter on the printed pictures. A selfie mode is also present on the device, allowing it to automatically adjust the focus and brightness for you, reducing the chance of taking a bad selfie when you are fiddling around with the camera. As for group photos aka wefies, you can utilise a built in timer to position everyone before the shot gets taken. You can even use a tripod by connecting it to the built in tripod socket at the bottom of the camera for stable timed shots. You can also cancel the timer midway if there are changes that needs to be made.
The SQ6 also sports a unique Double Exposure Mode that allows you to combine two pictures and print them onto a single print. To do so, simply press the shutter twice on your first subject, and press it twice again on the second, and both pictures will combine together to create an artistic piece. As mentioned, the camera uses the instax SQUARE Film to print your pictures and the film will take roughly 90 seconds to fully develop depending on ambient temperature. It also utilises two CR2 batteries to power the camera.
The new ambassador for Fujifilm, Alvin Chong also took to the stage today to talk about his experience with the camera. Alvin is a popular singer and actor that is signed to Universal Music Malaysia, and has over 800,00 followers on Instagram. Aside from Alvin, several coffee shops in Malaysia will also be promoting the instax SQUARE SQ6, offering exclusive discounts and so on. Mr. Yoshitaka Nakamura also announced that Taylor Swift, the world-renowned singer will be partnering up with Fujifilm to promote instax products worldwide.
The instax SQUARE SQ6 is now available at all Fujifilm dealers and authorised retail shops around the country with an early bird price of RM598.
