AMD launches the highly anticipated Ryzen Mobile processor today in Malaysia with notebooks housing the AMD Ryzen 5 2500U making an appearance as well. Featured in the Lenovo Ideapad 720S and Acer Swift 3, the Ryzen Mobile processor combines the architecture of the award winning “Zen” x86 cores, featuring SenseMI with revolutionary Radeon “Vega” graphics.
AMD Ryzen Mobile processors provide enhanced performance compared to the previous AMD mobile processor generation with up to 3X the CPU performance and up to 2.3X the GPU performance and up to 50% less power consumption. The processor will also provide an enhanced entertainment experience as it delivers smooth and playable framerates at 1080p in popular eSports titles such as League of Legends, Overwatch, CS:GO and DotA in an ultrathin form factor.
But more about the Ryzen 5 2500U, it has 4 CPU cores and 8 threads with a max base clock of 3.6GHz. It also has 8 Graphic Computing Units with a max GPU clock of 1,100MHz and an L2/L3 Cache of 6MB. One of the biggest things we looked out for was its TDP, and the Ryzen 5 2500U doesn’t disappoint with a nominal 15W. Benchmarks shown during the event had the Ryzen 2500U out performing budget processors with discrete graphics.
The benchmarks are promising and should suit the needs of gamers who want to be able to be able to play their favourite games without the need of lugging around a large notebook. In conjunction with the launch, consumers can purchase the Acer Swift 3 and Lenovo Ideapad 720S at a promotional price at Lazada, 11 Street and Shopee.
