Time To Go Chrome

Portability is king, and what’s better than a minimalistic notebook you can carry just about everywhere. The Acer Chromebook R11 is one of Acer’s latest notebooks targeting those who always wants to be on the go. A small body and good battery life comes a long way, and from our on-hand experience, the R11 could just be the one for you.

The Acer Chromebook R11 runs on an Intel Celeron N3160 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz. It also sports 4GB of DDR3L RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. When combined the R11 gives casual users the perfect platform to surf the web or even do simple work. The R11 works almost similar to an Android device in that it has an app store, which will allow you to download additional applications. The screen is an 11.6-inch IPS touch display that displays colours vibrantly, with clear crisp text. It’s also very responsive, proving once again that Acer makes some of the best touchscreen notebooks around.

For work you can get Google Docs or Sheets from the Play Store to cover your productivity needs. Also, the R11 has an SD card port along with both a USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 port for peripherals and USB storage devices. A nice touch is the HDMI port, which means you can connect it to a TV or monitor at home or in the office. For its size, it actually feels a bit heavy but not in a daunting way, just noticeable. The exterior of the R11 has a nice texture that is aesthetically pleasing, yet simple.

Performance wise it works as a tablet with a keyboard, but is a lot smoother to work with. The touchpad tracks well and has a nice audible ‘‘cluck”. Our testing of the R11 has been smooth sailing all the way – it’s simple and does exactly what it was meant to do. Whether as a tablet or as a notebook, the R11 swaps between modes easily thanks to the 360-degree hinge, which is solid and smooth. For a notebook that focuses on portability, battery life is an important factor to consider and the R11 has great battery life overall. It easily lasts hours, making it suitable for long flights and bus rides.

CHIP CONCLUDE: The Acer Chromebook R11 can be the best friend you carry around, whether for travel or for work.
