Dreamin’ Big

vivo’s latest smartphone, the V5s garnered some major attraction and applause over the months since its announcement, but we mustn’t forget about the bigger brother at play here. The V5 Plus’s main selling point is with its front cameras – a 20-megapixel primary front camera coupled with an 8-megapixel secondary front camera. Together they offer your selfies much more than just filters. Instead they are now capable of capturing selfies with depth-of-field, as well as bokeh effects. You still have a regular 16-megapixel rear camera for other pictures, but with the unique dual front camera, it’s difficult not to use it for everything.

Aside from that, the V5 Plus sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, which is a rare sight in mid-range devices and definitely a welcome sight on the V5 Plus. Wrapped in a Gold colour variant, the phone looks good, but easily reminds you of phones that are in the market right now. Sadly, the design is marred with a camera bump on the rear of the camera, but this could be easily remedied with a phone case. However, the phone is designed in a weird way. The screen seems like it sits above the metal body, thus creating a very noticeable edge when you hold onto the phone.

Performance wise, thanks to the high-end processor along with 4GB of RAM, your games, multimedia and everyday use is handled well. The menus are quite snappy as FunTouch OS does provide a good user experience. We’ve not encountered any issues while using it during our tests. However, the missing expandable storage will prove to be an issue for those who wish to have extra storage space, so you have to careful with what you install on this 64GB device.

CHIP CONCLUDE: Overall a great smartphone capable of amazing selfies, and could be the phone for you if good selfies are a buying point.
