Crosshair From The Red Camp

With Ryzen chips finally finding their way to Malaysian shores, everyone has been clamouring for their small piece of the red camp. Manufacturers have already launched a wide variety of motherboards to take advantage of the performance of the Ryzen chips.

What we have here is ASUS ROG’s flagship AM4 motherboard – the ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO. Out of the box you could tell it is a stylish motherboard, keeping a nice balance between black and grey. When hooked up, the Aura RGB LED’s light up the board beautifully. We were also amazed at the amount of USB ports facing us – a whopping eight USB 3.0 ports! And if that wasn’t enough there’s an additional four USB 2.0 ports, along with a Type-A and Type-C USB 3.1 port.

Putting the ports aside, the motherboard supports a maximum of 64GB of DDR4 RAM, with a frequency between 2,133MHz and 3,200MHz (overclocked) for Ryzen chips, and 2,133MHz to 2,400MHz for seventh generation AMD processors. It also supports NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossfireX for multi-GPU setups. The PCI-e slots are protected by ROG’s SafeSlot, and reinforced slots is always a plus in our books. In total, there are two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and three PCIe 2.0 x1 slots.

Overclocking is made easy on the CROSSHAIR VI HERO with the board’s ‘‘5-Way Optimization” one-click overclocking feature. It does all the hard work and leaves you with an increase in performance, even if you have no experience with overclocking. It also adjusts your performance and cooling in real-time to ensure you have a stable overclock. Before we forget, for storage there is a single slot for M.2 SSD’s and eight SATA 6Gb/s ports, you’ll definitely have a lot of space for storage options on this motherboard.

CHIP CONCLUDE: Whether you own an AM3 or AM4 chip, this motherboard is ready for either one and comes with a power packed package pushing the limits of performance.
