A Mate To Rely On

Huawei is really pushing the envelope of its own standards when it comes to flagship devices, especially when this particular device, the Huawei Mate 9 come out merely months after the Huawei Mate 8 was sold here.

The Mate 9 sports a 5.9 inch display with a Full HD resolution, and is powered by Huawei’s own high-end Kirin 960 processor, with 4GBs of RAM and 64GBs of storage space. The phone runs Google’s latest Android 7.0 operating system out of the box, with an update to Android 7.1.1 coming soon.

Powerful phones tend to run out of battery fairly quickly, but you need not worry about this issue because not only is the Mate 9 equipped with a poweful 4,000mAh battery that will last you throughout the day and more, it also has a USB Type-C charging port with SuperCharge technology that charges the phone from empty to full in under an hour.

At the back of the phone is the Leica co-engineered dual camera, one of which is a 20MP shooter with a monochrome sensor, and the other being a 12MP RGB camera, which combines to give you some amazing shots in both bright and low light conditions, similar to the one used on the Huawei P9 series.

The camera sports a feature called Hybrid Zoom, which allows users to take crisp and clear photos even when zooming in at long distances. On top of that, the Mate 9’s camera also has a refocusing feature, which allows you to take shots first, and refocus them afterwards. 4K videos are also a big deal these days even on phones, and the Mate 9 is capable of doing just that.

Performance-wise, we definitely have no problems with how the phone works. Thanks to the Kirin 960 processor and abundance of RAM, we were able to do pretty much everything we want to on this phone, be it checking social media for long periods of time, watching high resolution videos and even play games on it without having to worry about lag or the battery running out.

Our only complaint is that the Mate 9 does have a bit of tendency to heat up a fair bit when used for slightly longer periods of time. Not that it gets unbearably hot, but the heat generated is noticeable when you hold it in your hands.

CHIP CONCLUDE: The Huawei Mate 9 is definitely a great flagship device worthy of praise. If you’re looking for a phone with great performance, camera, and battery life, you can’t go wrong with this one.
