The focus technology this year for televisions is “HDR” (High Dynamic Range) and Sony’s new BRAVIA TVs have now released models with the feature. The Japanese maker has announced that it will be releasing a new series of 4K HDR TVs, which will deliver a greater dynamic range and contrast for great picture quality.
Sony has developed the new TV series – the X93D – to take advantage of the expected growth in 4K HDR content, with TV sizes range from 55-inch to 65-inch. Using 4K HDR, the new BRAVIA TVs will be able to output higher brightness and contrast levels, thanks to the X-tended Dynamic Range Pro technology. In addition, the X93D’s Slim Backlight Drive technology distributes backlighting more precisely, and helps in making the TV amazingly slim; when wall-mounted, the X93D rests flushed against the wall, which is aesthetically pleasing for some people. There’s also the 4K X1 Processor that is responsible in producing a wider range of colours, greater colour accuracy, and improves the streaming quality for 4K HDR images from services like the popular Netflix.
The X93D’s user interface is based on Google’s Android, making it essentially an Android TV. This means that users can readily access not only content services like Netflix, but also Google Movies, YouTube, and more. Users can enjoy an experience similar to an Android smartphone or tablet with the X93D TVs, which will also come with handy features like Google Cast and Voice Search.
At present time, Sony Malaysia has not made the X93D series available locally yet. But we have been informed that the TVs will be purchasable beginning June 2016.
Besides the new X93D TVs, the X85 series also gained a refresh in the form of the X85D series. Sony Malaysia has announced that this series comes in 55-inch and 65-inch sizes and will also feature 4K HDR. The X85D TVs are priced at RM7,499 and RM10,999 for the 55-inch and 65-inch respectively, and have been made available in Malaysia.
