Just think about it, wouldn’t it be nice to have small computer that you can bring anywhere with you without taking up too much space. A computer that can be hooked up to your TV and act as a HTPC yet only leaving a small footprint. Sometimes you just don’t need a big cumbersome PC to enjoy movies and music.

ASUS joins the fray with the VivoMini UN65 an ultra-compact PC with exceptional desktop performance. This ultra-compact PC houses Intel’s Skylake processors and supports M.2 SSD storage for blazing fast performance. For expansion and upgrading purposes, the VivoMini UN65 features an easy to disassemble case which we found easy to take apart to install additional pieces of hardware. Just remove the four screws holding the top down and pry it open to reveal the motherboard and slots for each hardware.

The UN65 uses SO-DIMM memory so make sure you buy SO-DIMM sticks of RAM to ensure it fits. You can also customise the wireless card as it is removable, so you can always opt to get a better wireless card for it. In addition, the UN65 supports 4K output and playback to promote enterprise image and value added to presented commercials. It’s also capable for dual display and works without a hitch when connected to both a TV and monitor in our office.

The UN65 is incredibly quiet, the ambient noise of our office seemed to be louder than the UN65 but that also tells us that the compact-pc is running quiet. At load there is a bit of noise if you listen closely but, it somewhat melds in with the background so you would barely notice it. There is no lag when it comes to navigation, just like using a regular PC, surfing the internet and using office tools such as Word and Excel had no issues whatsoever.

Using the VivoMini UN65 was a fun experience, being able to carry it around the office only encumbered a small power adapter yet still enjoy the functionality of a working PC. It also has a VESA mount that allows you to mount it onto your TV if it supports it, so you can take up even less space if you want to use it as a HTPC.

CHIP CONCLUDE: Smooth and seamless performance combined with its small size and portability makes the ASUS VivoMini UN65 a perfect HTPC if you ever needed one.
