Synology Inc. has launched the Synology DiskStation DS216+, a high-performance 2-bay NAS server aimed at home and small office users, who want an efficient and secure storage solution to protect and share data, as well as enjoy on-the-fly video transcoding.
The DS216+ comes equipped with an Intel Celeron Processor N3050 with Intel AES New Instructions encryption, which is capable of high speed performance with read and write speeds exceeding 111 MB/s, while ensuring encrypted data transmissions at over 113MB/s reading and 109 MB/s writing. In addition, the DS216+ can perform on-the-fly video transcoding from H.264 4K to 1080p video, making streaming multimedia files regardless of bandwidth or device limitations possible.
“Having a powerful NAS storage solution allows small offices to deliver high-speed file sharing, application serving, and online collaboration, or lets home users transcode and stream high quality video to multiple devices. DS216+ is designed for exactly such purposes and demonstrates our commitment to meet our users’ high expectations,” said Jones Tsai, Hardware Design Director of Synology Inc.
The DS216+ implements a Btrfs files system, allowing it to offer advanced data protection by enabling point-in-time snapshot and store, built-in data integrity checks, metadata mirroring, as well as quota control for shared folders. It also comes with a tool-less drive tray design for easy hot-swap support, and front LED’s that can be adjusted according to desired schedule settings.
DiskStation Manager (DSM) is the most advanced and intuitive operating system for NAS devices and it is featured in the DS216+. DSM features a wide range of applications from backup, network management to multimedia, and all the essential services that provide increased productivity at work, made readily available on the DS216+. The Synology DiskStation DS216+ NAS is available for $299 (RM1319 GST included).
