Next Step In Gaming Evolution
Intel’s Skylake processors have made its way around in the desktop PC segment to much fanfare, but MSI has finally started pushing them out to its line of gaming laptops, and with the MSI GE62 6QF APACHE Pro, we finally have the first Skylake-based gaming laptop here in the Malaysian market.
The APACHE Pro is one of the first gaming laptops in the market to sport a brand new Intel Skylake processor, which is an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, with up to 32GBs of DDR4-2133 RAM, running an NVIDIA GTX 970M graphics processor.
It sports a 15.6 inch display, with users having the option to opt for either a Full HD display, or a WQHD display. As for storage options, users also get to choose to opt for either an NVME-based M.2 SSD, or a SATA-based SSD. Both options come with a 2.5 inch HDD for storage purposes.
As for input and output options, the APACHE Pro comes with two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, and one USB 3.1 Type-C port. On top of that, there’s also the KillerLAN RJ-45 port, one HDMI v1.4 port, one mini DisplayPort 1.2 port, as well as an SD card reader.
MSI has retained the services of SteelSeries to do up the laptop’s keyboard, and it still remains one of the best gaming keyboards we’ve used in a while. The keys are also backlit thanks to the SteelSeries Engine 3, which also provides macro-recording capabilities, and is intelligent enough to open saved keyboard profiles based on the game that you’re playing.
Performance-wise, the APACHE Pro laptop is truly staggering. We were able to play the latest games, such as The Witcher 3, Metal Gear Solid V and Shadow of Mordor at max resolution with settings cranked up to high with relatively no problem. Thanks to MSI’s Cooler Boost 3 cooling technology, we also managed to game comfortably without having to worry too much about the heat coming from the CPU and GPU.
MSI has also implemented a new performance feature called “Shift”, in which you can choose your performance levels based on what tasks you want to do on your laptop.
CHIP CONCLUDE: If you have the cash to spare for a souped up gaming laptop with all the latest technologies, the MSI GE62 6QF 4K APACHE PRO should be up for consideration.
