MDeC and Google are collaborating for the Made For YouTube campaign, which aims to promote the production of local creative content. Through this collaboration, YouTube and MDeC will provide dedicated support to local content developers to help them achieve growth and success throughout the year long programme.
“Google highly encourages content creators and businesses to embrace digital as a platform. We would love nothing more than to help bring more Malaysian content onto the open Web and have Malaysian digital creators to connect directly with their fans.” Said Sajith Sivanandan, Managing Director of Google Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines and New Emerging Markets.
“The Internet has and will continue to enable YouTubers, creative creators and online publishers become successful. And Google is committed to helping our Malaysian content creators attain that success through our tools and platforms.” he added.
The campaign aims to grow local digital media content creators to bring them to the next level and reflect MDeC’s continued efforts to build the ‘new media’ sector to ensure healthy growth within the industry. The goal for the collective group is achieve RM1 million in revenue. Content creators will receive production facilities such as the Malaysia Animation Creative Content Centre (MAC3) and funding development.

At present, MDeC is on a game-changing mission to spur the creative content landscape for Malaysia, especially focusing on content for games. This partnership is very much aligned with our aim of positioning Malaysia as a regional hub for creative content”, said Dato Yasmin Mahmood, CEO of MDeC.
Not only that, they will also receive coaching sessions and workshops to improve their ability to produce content and dedicated manpower via direct contact with YouTube Account Manager. There is also growth and strategic advice for content creators so they can plan for the future. Over 20 MSC companies were handpicked by both MDeC and Google to be self-sustaining brands on YouTube. The main categories of the channels are Animation, Games/Gamification/Review, Original content series and Music videos.
