Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) announced that Malaysia’s widest 4G LTE network now connects even more Malaysians to its high-speed internet services with 60 percent population coverage. Engineers from Digi have been busy rolling out its network this past month to bring 4G LTE access to 80 major cities and towns, with key market centres averaging 95 percent population coverage. Digi has also switched on its 4G LTE-Advanced network nationwide with a 22 percent coverage footprint, reaching an average 50% population coverage in key market centres.

Kesavan Sivabalan, Chief Network Officer of Digi said “For us, it’s about delivering a strong network and customer experience across the board. We are building more sites to densify the network and overlaying a large number of our sites to dual band, 1,800Mhz and 2,600Mhz, to ensure that our customers experience consistently higher internet speeds with improved outdoor and indoor coverage. We designed our network our also deliver a minimum signal strength quality of -110dbm which is comparable with our counterparts in Scandivania and telco operators in countries like Korea, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan.”

This combination of density, coverage and capacity has enabled customers to enjoy 99.9 percent accessibility to Digi’s 4G LTE services. This also meant Digi customers are able to enjoy two times faster web page loading, two times faster latency and three times more stable connections. Digi also said they had more than 80 percent 5Mbps speed consistency with 10 times faster LTE relative speed.

Furthermore, Digi is in the works of rolling out Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) and Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi) services to compatible 4G LTE smartphones for customers in 2016. VoLTE will improve call experiences for customers with higher quality audio, faster call connections and simultaneous use of data, while VoWiFi will help customers enjoy improved indoor coverage.

While during the announcement, Digi also announced the #DigiWeWant4G Twitter campaign for customers to nominate towns to be the next in line for Digi’s 4G LTE network rollout. The campaign lets customers highlight locations they wish to enjoy high-speed internet coverage by tweeting the hashtag #DigiWeWant4G and the location name. Digi will then proceed to expand its 4G LTE network to the top 10 areas with the most hashtags.
