Samsung’s latest duo of flagship smartphone devices were first unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month, and it didn’t take long for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to make its way here to Malaysia.
Long-time fans of the Korean tech giants will be happy to know that this time, Samsung has done away with the plastic design, opting instead to go with a mixture of aluminium and glass for the construction of the S6 and S6 Edge’s chassis design. As far as display goes, the two devices feature a 5.1 inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a bright display rated at 600cd/m which is super bright, which allows you to see the display in almost any environment imaginable.
As far as the operating system is concerned, both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The model that is being brought in to Malaysia is the 32GB model, and unfortunately does not come with options for expandable storage.
The Galaxy S6 Edge, in particular shows unique and outstanding beauty of the curved edge screen. Both phones feature Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4, which is the toughest glass display from the ceramic manufacturers to date, and inside it is Samsung’s new 14nm processor, the Samsung Exynos 7420 CPU, coupled with LPDDR4 RAM, which both combine to provide 20 percent more powerful and 35 percent more energy efficient than its predecessor.
Both phones feature a front-facing 5MP camera and a rear-facing 16MP camera, both of which also feature an f1.9 aperture, which helps takes great shot during night time. In addition, Auto Real-Time High Dynamic Range (HDR), Smart Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and IR Detect White Balance also provide advanced light sensitivities and crisp images. The new Quick Launch feature also allows the camera to be launched within 0.7 seconds from any screen by double-clicking the home screen button.
Charging is another feature that is being touted here by Samsung, as both phones now have super-fast charging states, providing users with four hours of battery life with just 10 minutes of charging, which is 1.5 times faster than that of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Not only that, both the S6 and S6 Edge are also embedded with WPC and PMA-certified wireless charging standards, and work with any charger in the market that uses both these wireless charging standards. Samsung also has their own wireless charging plates, which can be purchased separately from the devices.
Other goodies in store for those who purchase either of these phones include a OneDrive cloud storage account with 100GB of free online storage, as well as a personalised pick-up service and a 7-point service check by Samsung’s own technical support team.
At Mobile World Congress, Samsung also announced that the S6 and S6 Edge will come in a variety of colours, including White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, as well as Blue Topaz for the S6 and Green Emerald for the S6 Edge. All these colours are slated to be available right at launch, with the special colours being available in limited quantities for the time being.
The pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge open tomorrow at http://samsung.com/my, to the 12th of April, and if you pre-order it during this period, you will also receive a Samsung wireless charging plate for free.
