After a two-month long nationwide search, the Imagine 3D Contest held by both Ricoh Malaysia and MakerBot, a 3D printer brand has finally come to a conclusion, announcing the names of the three winners at a closing event today.

The contest took both individuals and corporates alike on a journey fulled by creativity and innovation with the theme “Imagine Functionality: The Perfect Office Aid”, the aim of which is to have the participants imagine an idyllic office aid designed to help enhance one’s workspace, and bring it to life via 3D printing.

The contest was made possible thanks to Ricoh’s partnership with the 3D industry experts from iMakerzone who formed part of the judging panel as well as lead exclusive 3D design workshops for the participants to further refine their skills and inspire ideas on how one can best design a 3D product.

Whilst Ricoh received a lot of entries, Ricoh chose the top 10 best ideas to enter the finale, and from there, used the MakerBot 3D printers to bring the to 10 submissions to life from each category, including the Individual Category, the Corporate Category and the People’s Choice Category.

Mr. Alwin Wong of MyCHIRO Sdn Bhd won the Corporate Category thanks to his Pin Tack Dispenser idea

 

The grand winner of the Corporate Category, Mr. Alwin Wong got his company My CHIRO Sdn Bhd into the spotlight with his “Pin Tack Dispenser” design which not only helps users store those tiny little thing, but also dispense it safely.

Mr. Ew Chee Guan meanwhile took first place for the Individual Category for his Desktop USB Ioniser idea. It is a four-in-one office aid that functions as a pen holder, SD card holder, a USB port, as well as a USB ioniser to regulate a healthy workplace desktop.

Mr. Fabian Khaw from Akademi Usahawan Micro Sdn Bhd won via a 24-hour flash vote that took place on Ricoh Malaysia’s Facebook page

For the People’s Choice category, Mr. Fabian Khaw from Akademi Usahawan Micro Sdn Bhd won via a 24-hour flash vote that took place on Ricoh Malaysia’s Facebook page.

Corporate Category winner Mr. Alwin Wong was rewarded with a MakerBot Replicator Mini worth RM4,999, an RM2,000 cash prize, a Ricoh e-store voucher and a trophy, whilst Individual Category winner Mr. Ew Chee Guan took home a RM2,000 cash prize, a Ricoh e-store voucher and a trophy. Mr. Fabian Khaw meanwhile took home a Ricoh Pentax printer.
