Everyone seems to be on the bandwagon of releasing cheap, cheerful smartphones that are actually meaningful. No one seems to be in the thick of things like Xiaomi is. Their Redmi phones are famous for giving customers great value for money – and their latest RedMi 2 is no exception.
Some of the new improvements over the older Redmi 1S includes the inclusion of a new processor – the 64bit capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, fully laminated screen which removes the gap between the glass and the LCD screen, a reduction in weight (it is now 15 grams lighter than the Redmi 1S), and the best of all – dual 4G SIM slots for fast data connectivity across the world – even while roaming.
For imaging, Xiaomi has given the Redmi 2 an 8 megapixel BSI sensor on the back, and a 2 megapixel sensor in the front.
Superficially, the Redmi 2 has gotten some subtle but considerable upgrades which includes a thinner bezel, matte back plate, and rounded edges around the 4.7 inch screen. This actually means customers get more screen rather than a thick bezel. The screen also runs at 720p resolution so that you can het HD performance every time.
This is also Xiaomi’s first device that runs the latest MIUI 6, which is based on Android 4.4.4. Among the new updates seen on this version includes new themes, icon collection and animation/gestures throughout the device.
