The Best Xperia Yet
Although the smartphone hype train continues to revolve around the likes of Apple, Samsung and recent upstarts Xiaomi and Oppo, Sony recently unveiled their latest flagship device, the Sony Xperia Z3 to a lot of fanfare. In this review, we take a look at what makes the Japanese tech giant’s smartphone such a popular hit among consumers.
In terms of looks, the Xperia Z3 does not differ much from its predecessor. It sports a 5.2-inch IPS Full HD display, powered by Sony’s TRILUMINOS display which boosts the colours of the screen. The device powered by a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, comes with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card. On the back it carries an excellent 20.7MP camera, which takes incredible shots even under low-light conditions.
All of this goodness is encased in an aluminium chassis fitted with a glass back. The device is very comfortable to hold despite its size and comes furnished with a monstrous 3,100mAh battery. During our tests, the Xperia Z3’s battery lasted almost two whole days on a single charge, something no other smartphone has achieved in our hands.
On top of that, the device is also IP67-certified for dust and water resistance of up to 1.5 metres under freshwater for 30 minutes. This means that if you are one who loves the outdoors , you need not worry too much about your phone taking a dip in the water.
Performance-wise, the Sony Xperia Z3 is a beast, as it blazed through all of our synthetic benchmarks with ease. Apps started up and ran with no hitches whatsoever. At the time of writing, it is also the only Xperia phone that supports the PS4’s Remote Play feature, which allows users to stream PS4 games onto the phone.
While the phone does get warm from extended usage, it hardly ever gets uncomfortably hot, which is another feather on the Xperia Z3’s cap. If money is no object, this premium smartphone should definitely be on the top of your list of high-end devices.
CHIP CONCLUDE: The Sony Xperia Z3 is all one could ask for in an Android smartphone. It’s powerful, has a large beautiful display, and features a powerful battery to boot.
