It wasn’t too long ago that Microsoft launched its Surface 2 tablet that runs on Windows RT, here in Malaysia, and a couple of months since its announcement of the Surface Pro 3 tablet, Malaysia and various parts of Asia and Europe finally get to see Microsoft’s latest portable computing device solution as well.

At the launch, it was announced that Malaysians will be able to choose from the full spectrum of Surface Pro 3 variants, which includes an Intel 4th generation Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 models, with the Core i3 version equipped with 64GB of storage, the Core i5 model featuring 128GB and 256GB of storage, while the Core i7 model has 256GB and 512GB of storage.

One of the biggest changes to date to the Surface Pro 3 tablet is that it now has a 12.0-inch display, with a resolution that clocks in at 2,160 x 1,441 pixels. As with all Surface tablets, it also has a kickstand, but the difference now is that the kickstand can be set all the way back to make it a lot more comfortable to use on your lap.

The Surface Pro 3’s keyboard has also been given a facelift as the keys are now backlit, and the trackpad has been redesigned to make it better. Much like its predecessors, the keyboard snaps to the bottom of the tablet horizontally, and when closed, it protects the display of the Surface Pro 3.

As far as I/O ports are concerned, the Surface Pro 3 comes with one USB 3.0 port, one Mini DisplayPort and one microSD card slot for storage extension.

At the event, Microsoft also announced their collaboration with one of Malaysia’s most famous cartoonists, Reggie Lee, who was on stage at the event to show off what the Surface Pro 3 is capable of. He showed off his prowess on stage together with the Surface Pen, and how its pressure-sensitive sensors can detect different strokes on the Surface 3 display.

According to Sunny Ooi, Consumer Channels Group Director, Microsoft Malaysia, ever since preorders started opening in July, the response for the Surface Pro 3 tablet have been more than overwhelming, to the point that most of the stock that is being brought in to Malaysia will be used to fulfill the preorder requests.

Malaysian customers can now purchase the Surface Pro 3, starting from a recommended retail price of RM2,729 for its Core i3 64GB model, up to RM6,779 for the Core i7 512GB model. The Surface Pro 3 tablet can be purchased at Microsoft retailers and commercial resellers nationwide including Aone Plus Supplies & Services, Harvey Norman, Machanics Sdn Bhd, PC Image Sdn Bhd, Senheng Electric, senQ Digital Station, SNS Network, Thunder Match Technology and Viewnet Computer System.

Accessories such as covers and Ethernet adapters can be purchased now, however the Docking Station for Surface Pro 3 will only arrive later, but is open for preorders now.
