Back when ASUS first made a splash in the industry, many consumers were wary of their offerings. But now, ASUS is easily one of the most trusted and recommended brands out there as they continue to produce devices with affordable prices, stunning looks, good performance and durability, just like their latest entertainment laptop, the N550LF.
As we mentioned above, the N550LF just looks incredibly stunning. It may be a little on the thicker side but that is because ASUS has packed it with a ton of goodies such as a quad-speaker array, an ODD and a good selection of ports.
With the N550LF you also get a full-sized keyboard, which is a joy to use as each key has adequate spacing between them and have great travel and feedback. The large touchpad is also a nice touch as it makes navigating around much easier. Navigating using the touchpad was nice as it was sensitive but is sometimes a little too sensitive. Comfort is also one of the N550LF’s strong points as it has a large palm rest that just gets a little warm after long hours of use.
One of our little gripes with the N550LF is its display. Despite being a laptop built for entertainment, it only has a resolution of 1366×768. But despite that fact, the display on our unit was bright and produced clear images with vivid and accurate colours.
Like their previous entertainment laptops, ASUS have enlisted the help of Bang & Olufsen to enhance the sound system of the N550LF and for those who love music or catching every detail in a movie and game; this laptop has speakers that are loud and clear. It even comes bundled with a SonicMaster subwoofer for those who want the extra kick to the bass.
While it only had mid-range specs, the N550LF can actually be used for more than just watching movies or listening to music. It can be used for gaming but of course, some compromises will have to be made to graphic settings.
CHIP CONCLUDE: Once again, ASUS shows us why they are now one of the top brands all over the world and it is because of devices like the N550LF that looks great, performs well and is pretty affordable for what it has to offer. We had our gripes with it but the good thing is ASUS gives you the choice to customise the device to your liking.
