Sounds From All Around

Good gaming headphones have always been a premium to buy, especially when they come with a multitude of features such as surround sound, USB port adapters, volume controls and so on. Armaggeddon has other plans however, as they aim to bring the users more affordable gaming peripherals, while retaining the features that is seen on more premium brands. Introducing the Armaggeddon Avatar Pro ZX100 7.1 surround sound gaming headset.

The ZX100 isn’t your run of the mill dinky headset with microphone. Far from it, in fact, since its build is as bulky as a pair of headphones can be. The headphones feature 7.1 drivers housed inside large ear cups, which in turn are properly padded with leather sponge pads together with the headband.

It also comes with a detachable microphone and a volume control for both sound and microphone as well. The best part of it all is that the cables are the flat rubber types, which is the most efficient when it comes to reducing cable tangling.

As far as sound quality goes, the ZX100 does fairly well with most tasks. With TV shows and movies, the characters’ dialogues are mostly, if not all the time, audible enough. With the 7.1 channel surround sound feature, if the video itself has 7.1 output, you can even tell from which direction the person is talking from.

The ZX100 does exceptionally well with video games, of course; every ping of bullet or approaching footstep can be easily heard. Music listening is where the ZX100 falters. It doesn’t do so well with music that has a lot of high notes, especially ones with pianos and string instruments in them.

What’s cool here is that the ZX100 lets you select between a 5.1 and 7.1 surround, suiting your tastes. As a plus, the ZX100 comes with the Avatar Pro Z10 Sound Decoder. Connecting the headphones to it will light the logo up. It also comes with an extra set of leather earpads and a USB adapter for the headphone and microphone jacks.

CHIP CONCLUDE: The Armaggeddon Avatar Pro ZX100 does well at providing great immersion for video games and movie playback. It’s not so good with music, but makes up for it with lots of extras and features.
